The APA Approved Suppliers Scheme has been established for the following purposes:
- To ensure that Ayurvedic remedies used by members of the APA are used in accordance with UK legislation, the APA Safety Document and the APA insurance scheme, as well as sourced, prepared and stored in a safe and hygienic environment that is compliant with current legal standards;
- To ensure that our members are buying remedies from safe and reputable suppliers;
- For the APA to take positive action to limit adverse reactions in patients from remedies prescribed by our members.
Another feature of the initiative is the desire of the APA to work closely with suppliers in order to ensure their future compliance with UK legislation and safe-guard the long-term availability of Ayurvedic remedies for our members.
The Approved Supplier Scheme operates an inclusive principle to assist supplier companies to reach and maintain the highest standards of procurement, storage and distribution. Admission to the scheme involves an independent audit carried out by a quality inspector with experience of the herbal industry. The audit verifies such aspects of quality as traceability, batch control, testing standards, storage conditions, warehouse condition, recall systems, distribution methods, staff training, internal procedures etc. The audit will be repeated annually. The APA takes no financial benefit from this scheme.
The APA hopes that this initiative is supportive of companies in assisting them with the implementation of current and future legislation. We also hope that this leads to a positive relationship between practitioners and reputable supplier companies.
Ayurvedic suppliers interested in applying to the scheme should contact the APA Pharmacopoeia Committee for more details on info@apa.uk.com
